When zapping along the TV-channels, I happened to see the beginning of this series (broadcasted here as one long flick). It caught my attention, I returned to it and ended up watching only this mpeg. Although the beginning seemed to point to a rather trite and familiar kind of tear-jerking story, in my opinion the clip on the whole gives a fine portrait of unfortunate people hoping for love, and the difficulties and emotions they meet and experience. The British-realistic style of filming was quite fitting; the beauty lies not in the photos but in what is being portrayed, and the subtle and convincing acting of the leading actors perfectly complements this style. The story, although satisfying, may lack development and surprise, but as a whole the mpeg is a refreshing interval between all the glib and sophisticated Hollywood productions on TV these days.
